Chérif – Head Physical Therapist for Inpatient and Outpatient Services

My background and specializations

I earned a master’s degree in physical therapy and rehabilitation in 2020 from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, and I currently serve as the Head Physical Therapist for inpatient and outpatient care at CARE Belle-Terre in Thônex. My career has been shaped by a variety of professional experiences, both in Switzerland and abroad, which have allowed me to develop a versatile clinical practice and a comprehensive understanding of physical therapy.

My experience at Maisonneuve began in 2021. Today, as a physical therapist in Thônex, I work with patients from a wide range of backgrounds. Whether they are teenagers, adults, or seniors, athletes or non-athletes, I tailor my treatment to each person’s situation, abilities, and goals.

My practice focuses primarily on musculoskeletal physical therapy, particularly in the treatment of acute or chronic pain, injuries, and post-surgical recovery. At CARE Belle-Terre, I provide physical therapy services in Thônex for patients with conditions such as neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, sprains, or muscle and ligament injuries. I also treat patients with knee conditions, such as meniscal tears or anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, as well as those requiring rehabilitation following hip or knee replacement surgery.

My career path has also allowed me to gain experience in managing neurological and respiratory conditions, both in the clinic and in patients’ homes. In particular, I work with patients suffering from neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, focusing on mobility, balance, functional recovery, and independence. I have also expanded my expertise in working with older adults through a university diploma in geriatric rehabilitation, which I completed in 2024–2025.

This diverse range of experiences now allows me, as part of my work as a physical therapist in Thônex, to take into account the various factors that can influence recovery and to provide care tailored to each patient.

What characterizes my care

I am convinced that movement is at the heart of good health and lasting well-being. Walking, running, standing up, climbing stairs, working, participating in high-intensity sports, or simply performing everyday tasks are all abilities that can be impaired by pain, illness, or injury.

My role as a physical therapist in Thônex is to identify what is limiting these abilities and to work with each patient to develop a tailored treatment plan. I prioritize personalized care that focuses on the patient’s specific needs, activity level, abilities, and the goals they wish to achieve.

Beyond the diagnosis, I take a holistic approach to each patient. My experience in various areas of physical therapy allows me to tailor exercises and rehabilitation strategies to promote functional recovery, mobility, and independence.

As the Head of Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapy at CARE Belle-Terre, I also place particular importance on teamwork, clinical reasoning, and the sharing of knowledge among professionals. These aspects are an integral part of my practice and my role within the physical therapy team.
