What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy (also known as kinesitherapy in some French-speaking regions) is a health discipline that aims to prevent, assess and treat various physical problems.
Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques, including therapeutic mobility exercises, strengthening and endurance exercises, and manipulations. They work either manually or with equipment specifically designed to achieve our common goals.
Physiotherapy is prescribed by a general practitioner or specialist, but can also be prescribed by your surgeon (voucher issued with a specific mention defining the purpose of the therapy).

How can physiotherapy benefit my health?
Post-injury/surgery rehabilitation
Physiotherapy is often prescribed to aid recovery after a sports injury, road accident, surgery or other traumatic event that impairs independence. Physiotherapists work to restore the patient's mobility, strength and functionality.
Pain management
Physiotherapy can be used to relieve chronic or acute pain. Manual therapies, specific exercises and other modalities can help reduce discomfort and improve quality of life.
Injury prevention
Physiotherapists can teach exercises and strengthening techniques to help prevent injuries, especially in active people, whether they are athletes or not.
Improved mobility and function
For people with mobility problems due to chronic illness, trauma or neurological disorders, physiotherapy can help improve mobility and motor skills, coordination and overall function.
Chronic disease management
Physiotherapy is often integrated into the treatment plan for chronic diseases such as osteoarthritis, arthritis, obesity or diabetes to help maintain physical activity and improve quality of life.
Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation
After a heart attack, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or cardiovascular surgery, physiotherapy can be used to help patients recover and strengthen their cardiorespiratory system.
Management of neurological disorders
For people with neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease or stroke, physiotherapy can be used to improve motor function and quality of life.

How does your physiotherapy treatment work?
Your doctor will usually issue you with a voucher for 9 sessions.
At your first session, your physiotherapist will assess your existing deficits, set goals and establish a treatment plan.
During these sessions, depending on your needs, your physiotherapist may use manual techniques or exercise you in a cubicle or technical room, using highly specialized machines or small equipment.
Your physiotherapy treatment is personalized. Every patient is unique, and every problem is different, so treatment is tailor-made.
Please note: In order for your basic insurance to cover your sessions, your first session must take place within 5 weeks of your physiotherapy voucher being issued. Moreover, the voucher is no longer valid after 3 months, so your appointments must be made within this period.
