What is chronic pain?

Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience resembling that associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Often, pain serves as a protective symptom of illness or injury. In this case, treatment of the condition is crucial and can resolve the pain. However, pain may persist despite successful management of the condition that initially caused it, or because the condition cannot be successfully treated.

Chronic pain is pain that persists or recurs for more than 3 months. Often, this pain becomes the predominant problem for the patient. As a result, it may require specific assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. Chronic pain is a common condition, affecting around 20% of the world's population. It is multifactorial: biological, psychological and social factors all contribute. The fact that pain is chronic does not imply that it is inexplicable and/or "lifelong".

What is the follow-up procedure, from the anamnesis to the last session?

Good rehabilitation starts with an overall assessment of the patient, taking into account the patient's history and experiences, as well as biological, psychological and social factors, the impact of the pathology on daily life, and the patient's expectations and goals. Once the objectives have been set, the appropriate treatment is put in place and reassessed if necessary.
